One thing I really like about using a Magic Trackpad is that it is the same on my Mac Book Pro as it is on my desktop Mac. So there really is no advantage or disadvantage for each one over battery power. They both take two AA batteries and you can use rechargeables in there like the ones Apples sells. Whereas the Trackpad always stays in exactly one spot and never moves. You are going to need some sort of pad for the Magic Mouse to be on depending upon the surface of your desk and what that is like and just some space to move the mouse on. So it is a little bit different in the ergonomics and also how you use your desktop space. This is the same thing, as I said, with the Mac Book Pro. So you are not actually moving your arm you are just barely moving your fingers across the top of it. The Magic Trackpad on the other hand stays in the same place on your desk. So you are actually moving your arm as you control the Mouse and the cursor on your screen. The Mouse is something you hold in your hand and you need space on your desk to move around. Of course ergonomically they are very different. This is actually the same set of gestures you would get if you bought a new Mac Book Pro which of course has Trackpad built in. You've got Scroll and Zoom gestures and you even have this whole section here of more gestures with all sorts of different things that you have. Now on the Magic Trackpad you get much more. You can swipe between full screen apps and you can activate Mission Control.īut that is it as far as Gestures are concerned on the Magic Mouse. You also get more gestures in here where you can swipe between pages. You can Smart Zoom double-tap with one finger. You can also secondary click and decide whether or not that is on the right or left side since it is just a touch surface you can basically think of it as a two button mouse even though you can actually touch any part of the surface you want. You can scroll across the top of the Magic Mouse. So I can see for instance here for a Magic Mouse that I've got point and click controls for scrolling. I can go into each one and see some of the gestures and options offered. We can go into System Preferences and there is a Mouse and Trackpad pane. I've got both connected to this Mac right here. But you should seriously look at the Magic Trackpad as a good alternative. Your first instinct may be to go with the Magic Mouse because perhaps you have used mice all the time and you don't want to switch. Now there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. Now they are the same price so which one should you get. You're scrolling through the options considering different things you can get with it and you notice, of course, that you can choose between a Magic Mouse or a Magic Trackpad. On today's episode let's talk about deciding whether to get one of these or one of these. Video Transcript: Hi, this is Gary with MacMost Now. With the exception of web browsing, which seems to be highly cursor-centric, I can go for long stretches of time without touching the mouse.Check out MacMost Now 775: Mouse Or Trackpad? at YouTube for closed captioning and more options. It can take a bit of getting used to but once you're proficient a LaunchBar-enabled Mac is a Mac where you barely need to a touch a mouse or trackpad. You can also access all running applications by typing 'Runn' and selecting 'Running Applications' from the top of the list to pick an app to switch to (or paste in to or what not) directly from the list of running apps. If TextMate is already running it'll switch to it, if it's not it'll start it. It learns pretty quickly what I usually launch when I type something like 'te' and will start showing me TextMate without having to type much. For application launching and switching I just Cmd-Space to call up LaunchBar and start typing the name of the app. Launch apps, switching apps, sending files to apps, copy and paste history, accessing apps text services.the list is long. I use LaunchBar about everything on my Mac. I did buy a Magic Mouse instead of using the touchpad because it made it easier for graphic design work. It really increased how fast I can switch between windows. I suggest you give it a try, especially since its free. Its really awesome, you can pick whatever gestures you want and they are all super easy and responsive.

It's at about the level of my Swedish in 1993 or so: if I listen intently and concentrate very hard, I may be able to work out the subject being discussed, but not follow the discussion.īut I don't want to leave a laptop on 24×7 and I definitely don't want a big computer with a separate screen, keyboard and mouse doing it. Czech radio seems to mainly play a lot of bland pop which isn't my thing, and of course I can't understand a useful amount of Czech yet. I listen to a lot of BBC 6music – I am right now, in fact – but it needs a computer. The π3+ is a bit less gutless but all the other limitations apply – and it needs more power and some form of cooling.īut then a chap on FesseBouc offered an official π touchscreen, used and a bit cheaper than new. What's worse, the Ethernet and wifi are USB devices, sharing the single USB2 bus with any external storage – badly throttling the bandwidth for server stuff. They're not really up to running a full Linux desktop. The π3 had faster cores and wifi, but all still only have 1GB of non-upgradable RAM. The π2 at least had 4 cores, but still weedy ones. The π1 was a single rather gutless ARM6 core. The sad thing about the RasPi is that it's a bit underpowered. Then I bought myself a π3+ in a passive-cooling heatsink/case for Yule 2018, which did get used for some testing at work, and since then, has also been gathering dust. I sold my π2 when I got a π3, but then that languished largely unused for several years, after the fun interlude of getting it running RiscOS in an old ZX Spectrum case. I have several RasPis lying around the place. Setting it to the maximum value can have a serious impact on the time it takes to import the model as well as on performance and render speeds in Lumion.
“I am so fried/ Rang dizzy inside/ Fuck me I’m alive. It marked the most significant transformation in an already shape-shifting career, finding Walker miles away from the folk. Ryley Walker and his quartet perform 'The Halfwit in Me' on at Outpost in the Burbs in Montclair, New Jersey. Ryley Walker, who is currently on tour with Drive-By Truckers, took the stage for 2001’s Angels and Fuselage off Southern Rock Opera. His lyrics are bitingly sharp, recalling his wilder, more inebriated youth. Back in May, Ryley Walker released his fourth album Deafman Glance. On “Rang Dizzy”, Walker’s quick fingers create bubbling cascades of guitar, and he uses a background of swelling strings to add shape and drama. Unfortunately there are no concert dates for Ryley Walker scheduled in 2023. If “Rang Dizzy” is any indication, Course in Fable finds Walker returning to accessible - though hardly simple - songwriting. Over the last three years he’s been busy, bordering on prolific, but the music hasn’t always accommodated itself to popular tastes. He followed that with The Lillywhite Sessions, a not-especially-faithful cover of a lost Dave Matthews Band record, the jazzy Charles Rumback collaboration Little Common Twist, and, last week, the jam-heavy live set Deep Fried Grandeur performed with Kikagaku Moyo. FebruThe jam-heavy live set captured between Walker’s four-piece band and the Japanese psych-prog quintet is a heady meeting of the minds. In Episode 083 we sat down with two of our favorite musicians, Ryley Walker & Ryan Jewell for a wide-ranging interview and jam session following a fantastic. Walker’s last album in the traditional sense of the word was 2018’s Deafman Glance, though with its leisurely instrumental interludes, ‘traditional’ might be a bit of a stretch.
